ABOUT US
The Company
The Bowley Lock Company Inc. was formed in 2015, by two brothers, Ryan Bowley, a mechanical engineer with a background in machinery development, and Tyler Bowley, a commerce graduate with a background in corporate insurance. When the method of several home robberies in our community was attributed by the police to be by way of lock tampering we became acutely aware that the security of our common hardware store locks was not sufficient. We decided to outfit our homes with high security locks, but were shocked at the high cost. Left feeling let down by the lock industry, we set out to see if we could develop a high security lock that the average person could afford. After many long brainstorming sessions, a novel idea of a shielded pick proof, bump proof lock came to us and we knew we were on to something. We began developing the lock and subsequently filed an international patent on the idea. We have now perfected the design after several prototypes and started The Bowley Lock Company. Our locks will be made from high quality materials, while offering it to the public for a price far lower than any other high security lock. Please view the "how it works" page and the "how safe is your current lock" page to find out why everybody needs a better lock on their home. Find out why the Bowley lock is "Pound for Pound" the best lock on the market.
The Problem
Good high security locks do exist, but at a significant cost. While many of them are quite resistant to tampering by picking or bumping, the problem with these locks is that their security is derived from an increase in the complexity and number of pins. This complex design approach has spurred elaborate locks in which the keys have coding (bitting) cut on multiple faces of the key and pins, which are telescopic, split in half and cut at angles. All of these features do increase the difficulty and time to pick the lock, however in many cases lock bumping remains a significant downfall, in addition to the upfront cost of the lock itself. Despite their complexity, the one fatal flaw that all these designs share is that the pins remain accessible through the keyhole giving direct access to pick the lock. While security is enhanced, these designs all incorporate increased complexity and cost, and often can still be picked or bumped. High security locks generally start at $300-$550 per door before installation and can cost well into thousands per door, putting them well out of reach of the average consumer.
We were appalled to find out that the locks on our homes did not offer the simple protection that one would expect from a lock. That being, that it should not be easy to open the lock if you don't have the key. Sadly the industry has been flooded with cheap locks made overseas of poor material and antiquated technology, which is an invitation to any criminal who wants to enter. We feel every home should have high security locks and believe the term high security shouldn't exist. All locks should provide high security.
The Product
The Bowley Lock Company Inc. has created a new type of pin tumbler lock. The pins are located above a steel shield and cannot be accessed from the keyhole. The relative simplicity and quality of the design has allowed us to build a lock which offers greater security at a greatly reduced cost.
The Bowley Lock Company Inc. will offer our patented ultra high security locks at a reasonable price. We build our locks out of the best materials for the job because saving a few dollars per lock is not worth the trade off in quality, safety and security. Our lock cylinders and keys are made out of 17-4 PH stainless steel. The internals of the lock are high grade brass, for long life and lubricity, and we use the industry's highest quality pins.
Our locks can be re-pinned and re-keyed by a locksmith, but cannot be picked or bumped using conventional methods. As with other high security locks and keys, it is important to keep a key with a family member or trusted friend because even a locksmith will not be able to pick the lock. We will do everything possible to get you a replacement key if you happen to misplace yours. We are working with locksmiths around North America to stock our key blanks, so that your local locksmith can support your needs.
We will offer the highest level of key control, so that you cannot obtain a new key unless you are the owner of the lock. Only certified locksmith shops will carry our blanks and will need to follow our strict protocols before producing a replacement key.
Where is the Lock Manufactured:
We cannot claim we are made in Canada because we use so many parts and components in our products that are made in other countries. One day we hope we can make everything in house, until then some of our lock parts are made in China, some are made in Taiwan, some are made in the USA and some we make ourselves or purchase locally here in Canada. So although we are not 100% made in Canada we are most certainly a 100% Canadian Company.
